"I had to stop work to care for my dying mom"

This happens all too often. Beverly is an only child. She is in her mid fifties and divorced. For quite some time her mother was seriously ill. No longer able to afford the care her mother needed, Beverly was left with only one choice. Quit her job, take care of her mom, and live off whatever small savings she had. After several months her mother died, Beverly faced the new reality. She was three months behind in rent, a couple of months behind in utility payments, and a month behind in her car payment. The landlord filed for eviction, Totally panicked, Beverly contacted our partners at Jewish Family Services. The case was referred to JSS. A discussion with the landlord resulted with the eviction notice recinded. JSS was able to pay two months rent, the utility bills, and a portion of her car payment. We are pleased that Beverly has returned to work and , although still dealing with the death of her mother, is working towards getting her life back on track.
